About Us

Who we are

World Of Wiring was set up in 2008 to cover a notable gap in the market for easy to install Kit Car wiring looms. Most looms available at the time relied heavily on a printed sheet showing how the loom should be connected. This was fine if the loom was to be used relatively soon. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, the loom was purchased at the same time as the rest of the kit, and it was then put into a cupboard until needed. That might be 2 or 3 years later, and in the meantime just what did you do with that sheet of paper?!

A World Of Wiring loom has most of the labelling on the loom itself, alongside each connector. So there isn’t a sheet of paper to lose! That should mean that it doesn’t matter whether it is next week, next month, or next year when you come to fit the loom. All the information you need is still there. World Of Wiring is happy to currently supply looms to Blitzworld, (www.blitzworld.co.uk) and the Gentry Motor Company, (www.gentry.co.uk).

Since starting with kit cars, looms have also be designed and built for classic and competition cars, as well as a commercial specification lawn mowers!

World Of Wiring has continued to expand, and a considerable investment has been made in the technology to allow the production of coded keys, as used on the majority of modern cars. Keys can also be cut for older cars, including classics, and key blanks have been sourced from around the world for customers, including the USA, and Australia.

World Of Wiring is able to help with other areas of auto-electrical work. The installation of car alarms, reversing cameras, and entertainment systems is all possible, as is the design, construction, and installation of one-off projects. One of the most enjoyable one-offs has been the design and construction of a remote interface unit to allow a Herbie replica Volkswagen Beetle to “magically” appear to come to life at exhibitions and shows. The work even extended to the design of a special horn unit, in order to produce the classic “Toot, toot” Herbie sound.

Although based in Gretna on the Scottish border, we can come to you if necessary. Mobile facilities are available to perform key cutting and programming, and test equipment is carried to allow many auto-electrical problems to be resolved on-site. Unfortunately due to the costs involved in travelling, both in terms of time and fuel, it is really only practical to attend one-off jobs in Scotland and the north of England. However multiple jobs further afield may be practical, as are wiring looms that can be built remotely. We are happy to discuss these on an individual basis.

Support & FAQ's

What information do you require to make a loom?

A. Basically the length of each “limb” of the loom, the connections required at each point, and the power requirements of each device connected to the loom. An appropriate wiring diagram of what is required is extremely useful. In fact, the more information that can be supplied, the better!

Support & FAQ's

Q. Can you build the loom remotely, or do you need to see the vehicle personally?

A. We are happy to work remotely if sufficient information can be supplied by the customer. Alternatively we can arrange a visit for measuring up, etc. However please note that any costs from the visit will be passed onto the customer, and that World of Wiring will not accept any liability for problems caused by the supply of a loom produced remotely, if all facts affecting the design and construction of the loom have not been disclosed by the customer.

Support & FAQ's

Q. Can you also fit a loom you have supplied?

A. Yes, but this will involve an additional charge.

Support & FAQ's

Q. Do you only supply full looms, or can you also supply partial looms?

A. We are happy to supply full or partial looms, depending upon the requirements of the customer.

Support & FAQ's

Q. For what types of vehicles can you supply looms?

A. Classic Cars, Kit Cars, Competition Cars, Commercial Vehicles, Boats, Hovercraft, Tractors, Motorcycles, Ride-on Lawn Mowers, Caravans, and Trailers, to name a few! We have already produced looms for most of these.

Support & FAQ's

Q. How long does it take to supply a loom?

A. It depends very much upon how busy we are, and how much research is required before the loom is started. However it is hoped that all can be supplied within 2 months at the latest.

Support & FAQ's

Q. Can you re-wire vehicles with the loom in situ, rather than having to remove the original loom?

A. Yes, but the work will be charged at an hourly rate, unless previously agreed with the customer. Also it is likely to involve more than one visit to complete the work.

Support & FAQ's

Q. How much do you charge for a full loom?

A. This will vary considerably, depending upon the specification required, however a basic full loom will start from around £400.

Support & FAQ's

Q. Why are your wiring looms so much more expensive than some that are available?

A. Our looms are custom-made to fit the vehicle. The cheapest looms are a standardised fit and may require considerable modification to fit your vehicle. Also, do you require waterproof connectors? You probably won’t get many of them on the cheaper looms. Remember, our looms are custom-made, so you should get what you want!

Support & FAQ's

Q. Is anything possible?

A. Pretty much, but frankly some of the things we have been asked to do would have been more trouble than they were worth, and highly unlikely to work correctly!
